I love foreign languages and cultures. In love with the French language for years and excited now to start learning Chinese. I'm a strong believer in immersion so I try to surround myself with many types of exposure to the new language!!

Just wanted to let you know that I set up a new groups page.  I'm not sure if you want to join any of the groups but you can also create your own.

With characters I think some depends on your goals. If just social, I'd say wait. If you want to learn for use in work, can probably start earlier.  Either way, I would not recommend worrying too much about it until about 3-6 months in.


We have just started characters in my class (3 months in). Definitely interesting but it also now feels like I have hit a wall in being able to actually communicate, which is how I've always considered standard for progress.


My suggestion is to stick with pinyin until you're more comfortable and let your curiosity about characters draw you in rather than a strict schedule. I thought this book was fun for beginning characters (self-study) because it uses kid stories to collect useful characters and picture-stories to show how/why the characters mean what they do - how they evolved sort of - to help remember them.

Hi! welcome! I put lyrics on the video page, let me know if that's what you were looking for.

I dig your website. I used to listen to Spanish music a lot while learning that language and I'm slowly trying to kickstart mandarin music as well. Any tips / suggestions are definitely welcome!
