Chinese version Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way with lyrics

Internet rock star Dawen, who got a ton of traction for covering Rebecca Black "Friday" in Chinese, is back with this really enjoyable Chinese rewrite of "I want it that way" by the Backstreet Boys.

I think this is great for learning Chinese - you know the song, the ideas & the English is presented alongside the Mandarin.

That's great! It's going to be in my head all day.

One question, though, that you might be able to explain - why 'wo yao ni' when the English is 'I want it'? Does that just not work in Chinese?

Here are the English lyrics for reference - hopefully others can help with your question.

"I Want It That Way"

Yeah

You are my fire
The one desire
Believe when I say
I want it that way

But we are two worlds apart
Can't reach to your heart
When you say
That I want it that way

[Chorus:]
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

Am I your fire
Your one desire
Yes I know it's too late
But I want it that way

[Chorus]

Now I can see that we're falling apart
From the way that it used to be, yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know
That deep down inside of me...

You are my fire
The one desire
You are
You are, you are, you are

Don't wanna hear you say
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
(Don't wanna hear you say)
I never wanna hear you say
I want it that way

Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin but a mistake
Tell me why
I never wanna hear you say
(Don't wanna hear you say it)
I want it that way
I want it that way

I may have a sort of answer - I was talking to my tutor yesterday and she was correcting me for saying "They are not well written" - tamen xie de bu hao. It's 'english' to use ta like that, she says, you're better to say Zhe xie wen zhang xie de bu hao. So - maybe that is why the song's been translated in this way?
