Hi - well, Learning a Chinese will be a slow, but steady, hopefully, life long process. The question "how long will you study Chinese" is kind of a strange one...

Thanks for the welcome!  My most recent word learned in Mandarin:

黃牛"huang2niu2" or "yellow cow"--a slang expression for scalper; those unscrupulous types that sell you tickets to sold-out events, transportation, etc.

ni hao,

I look forward to sharing our journeys through the Mandarin language.  Here is a recent word to ponder:

pa1san4 = hiking (gerund); to hike (infinitive); hike (noun)

I just came back from a visit to the Great Smokey Mts.  There I hiked to a place called Gabes Mountain.  Within it was a spectacular site called Hen Wallow Falls.  Wo3 xi3huan1 pa1san4.

Hey,

Definitely really excited about joining a community of people trying to do the same thing, especially as, like you said, no-one around me is doing the same thing! Thanks for all the hard work.

Best,

Steve
