I came across this video series based on a Washington Post article entitled, "‘OMG Meiyu,’ a breakout hit Web show, schools Chinese in American s...". The article gives a lot more background on the star Jessica Beinecke & the show but it is basically a Voice of America show that has become popular in China after one of the clips went viral, embedded below.
Based on a youku search, it looks like most episodes average around 30,000 views. You can watch all the episodes on the YouTube channel here: OMG 美语
The most popular clip on Youku with 1.5 million views is OMG! 美语 Yucky GUNK!. Watch on YouTube.
Depending on your tolerance level of the format, I think some of these episodes could be an interesting way to practice your Mandarin as well as pick up new ways to express common English idioms.
For example, here's another episode that deals with idioms related to fruit, "You're such a peach". Or watch the same peach episode on youku here.
What do you think of the show?

Comment by Brandon on November 7, 2011 at 7:29am @ la - I can't say for certain who was first. I looked up that URL and it says was published/updated Oct 27,11 while the OMG Meiyu video was uploaded to youku 3 months ago. So my guess is echineseonline might have 'been inspired' :) Regardless, thanks for the sharing the related link.
@Niel yeah I felt old watching these videos but it was still too interesting not to share. Plus if a person doesn't mind the format I bet that there is quite a bit of interesting phrases/vocabulary that's covered.
in the intro of her "you're such a peach" video, she's speaking so fast.(at 0:04-0:06 and when she introduced her name) No doubt she's good at speaking chinese but about the copying thing..I'm sure she just sharing I suppose!
and I wanted to share the videos, I cracked when I saw the string of words, "Sharing is caring, seriously" hahaha!!
With those huge blue eyes and pale skin I'm surprised she has a "mere" 1.5 views, ha ha.
Yeah, she is definitely annoying, but anytime I see foreigners speaking fast and clear mandarin it does inspire me in some weird way...
