Recently I was emailing with a Chinese friend and had to cancel plans because I was sick. I said:

我感冒

wŏ găn mào - i caught a cold

Her response:

可怜的家伙,好好休息吧

kĕ lián de jiā huŏ, hăo hăo xiū xi bā

Luckily I had recently asked my teacher how to say something like 'oh poor baby' in Chinese as kind of a sarcastic remark and she said you could say 可怜 kĕ lián.

I'm fairly certain my friend said something nice but man that did not auto-translate well...

But loose translation is more or less: poor you, have a good rest please!
